Dead Wood

Dead things control
the course of the living.
Creating expectations,
shaping growth,
setting limits.
Ancestors rotting in graves
help set the paths
of their descendants,
even the earth and water
are theirs to infect.

Homebuilders are bred
to make a living
in dead wood;
kill something,
surround the living with it.
Everyone alive takes shelter
at one time or another
from life in their dead
wood, erected.

  1. Brilliant.

Although, I know I’ve been hanging around with the my brothers too much, because the last line made me chuckle… completely against my will and in spite of what little good sense I still have. ๐Ÿ˜‰
