ache

I heard her from across the room
Her identical twin bed
Parallel to mine
A breathing pattern
And fluttering of sheets
So lonely and aching for touch
That she touches herself
Not even minding my presence
(She thinks I don’t notice)
I remember being in that state of heart
And I ache
Trying to block out the sounds
To bestow the gift of silent privacy
