Stomach

When you look at the leftovers in your fridge
The pizza sauce I cobbled together
The tortilla pie recipe from my childhood
The pasta carbonara
Do you feel like eating?
Do you want the taste
Of somebody taking care of you
(A little)
Or does it make your stomach clench?
Maybe nostalgia feels a bit like hunger
Maybe it feels like having a tiny bit too much
I can’t ascertain
The state of your stomach
But please eat something homemade
Something you watched me make
Before you untied my apron strings
And held that sundress against you
Reheat some affection
Have a glass of wine
And know someone cared
Even for your stomach.
